#Entrepreneurship 101 Your brand and Social Media

entrepreneurship

It is an awesome feeling to work for yourself and have it be successful. I can tell you from first hand experience, there is no crazier employment ride then trying to get your own small business off the ground. I’ve started several of my own over the last ten years and I’ve been brought on board as a consultant for many people who are running successful small businesses as we speak.

The internet and social media especially are powerful tools when they are used responsibly. Think about it like a glass of wine. Having a single glass of wine with dinner versus drinking an entire bottle then getting behind the wheel of a car. See the difference? The internet has made it easy for people to network and even start a small business. In most cases even if all you have is an idea, there is a website that offers a template or basic store front for you to get started.

Almost everybody uses some sort of Social Media these days and for the entrepreneur, it is the most cost effective way to share their business with little to no marketing budget. In every area of life you will find people who are good at some things and other’s who aren’t. Not every person who makes music is going to develop a following or sell albums, not every person who applies to Harvard gets in, and not every entrepreneur is able to turn their business into an income sustaining entity.

The thing that drives me crazy as a person who truly loves to see others succeed is the utter lack of professionalism on social media when it comes to individuals trying to create a brand or run a business. It drives me crazy because there are far too many people with million dollar ideas or an outstanding product that only get so far and the reason they can’t get past a certain level is largely due to their own behavior and attitudes.

If you are starting a business or brand, it should have it’s own social media handles, especially if you’re one of those people who can’t resist the urge to blow off steam in your posts.  If you had money to invest, would you invest your money in a company or brand who’s owner was emotionally unstable all over social media? Think about it. Your personal life should have absolutely nothing to do with your business. If you are marketing your business to your personal social media followers and then when you’re in your feelings you’re using that exact same platform to blow off steam, how is anyone supposed to take you seriously as a business person? Some steam may be appropriate depending on the industry, but if you want yourself being taken seriously as a “CEO” or Business Owner? Then present yourself seriously.

What job have you ever had that you were allowed to walk around cursing in front of customers? What job have you ever had where it was okay to whine about your haters all day? You should care more about the integrity of your own business then you’ve had about one you didn’t own and just worked for. Sometimes YOU are the only obstacle standing in your way of greatness.

QTP: For those who may not be familiar, can you introduce yourself to our readers?
Level: My name is Rene Level Martinez and I’m a minister of the gospel, I wanna share a brief testimony on my life, as a kid i didn’t have a father figure in my life, my mom was on the streets addicted to drugs, she was an alcoholic. She was part of a religion known as santeria which is a very dark world, I remember being 5 years old and them sacrificing a goat and pouring the blood over my head, I started to see demons not long after that, I saw them my whole life and was controlled by them. I got into the streets as early as 9 and started breaking into houses and cars, I walked into a gang at the age of 13, One night we got into a high speed chase in a stolen car and we crashed into a man that died on impact, i was in a comma for 3 weeks with a 5% chance of survival, when I woke up I had broken bones all over my body and I was facing manslaughter charges, I was 14 at the time.  When I recovered I didn’t learn my lesson, I got right back into the streets and started gang banging really hard, ended up homeless with my mom and had to rob to eat, one night I found my mom half dead overdosed on pills with her wrist slit, when she got better she ended up meeting Jesus Christ and left to a retreat for a weekend, in that one weekend my mom stopped all drugs and alcohol! instantly!! but for me it was to late all I ever knew was the streets, ended up in Juvenile Hall at the age of 16 for attempted murder, got sentenced to a juvenile facility. I became the leader of the Loc’ed Syndicate Gang at 17 years old in Miami Dade County, I was active for over two decades and had a road to Demascus experience one night, Jesus Christ spoke to me!!! Like when Saul became Paul! not long after that I met a man of God that gave me the true word and told me to get baptized in the NAME of JESUS CHRIST according to Acts 2:38, and let me tell you, a shift in my life happened that day! I never been the same, i got this fire in me! and now I go from hood to hood, project to prison preaching repentance and remission of sins in the might name of JESUS CHRIST!!!
QTP: After watching your documentary “The Warrior Level” I was truly encouraged. I commend you for taking such a bold stand for Christ and having the courage to start a new life. How did the documentary get started?
Level: When i was a kid we came up on a camera and I started recording stuff in the hood, a lot of gang footage, and underground fight footage from when I was bare-knuckle fighting for money. One day I gotta vision of turning my life story into a documentary…
QTP: Congratulations on being awarded two awards at the International Christian Film Festival for 2018. That must have been a very humbling and proud moment for you.
Level: Yes it was a blessing!, I was competing against some big names, I won most inspirational documentary and best documentary audience choice. All praise and glory to Jesus Christ
QTP: Where can folks see your documentary? Is it available on DVD?
Level: I’m currently shopping it to a few networks, all info is on my website THEWARRIORLEVEL.COM
QTP: So when did you start making music?
Level: I had a lot of friends doing music since the 90s and always had it in me but I actually started recording music in 2008
QTP: How would you describe your music to someone who’s never heard it before?
Level: West coast style with a message of truth!  my music is meant to spread the truth of God!
QTP: Who are your musical influences?
Level: I don’t listen to rap anymore, I’m more into praise and worship
QTP: Do you have any full projects out as yet? Where can folks find your music?
Level: I’m wrapping up my Album soon “WALKING TESTIMONY” I will have it on most  available platforms
QTP: What are your plans for the next 5 years? What can your fans & supporters expect? Level: Working on a movie on my life and I will continue to build Disciples of all nations in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, I’m radical for Jesus Christ! All I wanna do is kingdom build!
QTP: Is there anything else you would like to add or want people to know?
Level: God is One and He wants to use you in a mighty way!!!! if He did it for me, He can do it for you!!!
QTP: What are your social media handles and web address? What would be the best way for someone to get in touch with you for speaking events?
Level: The best way to get a hold of me is through my website THEWARRIORLEVEL.COM  My Social media handles are @Level305 on IG and Twitter and my Facebook is FACEBOOK.COM/CHRISTWARRIOR305 and  FACEBOOK.COM/LEVELEMOUT
QTP: Thank you so much for taking the time to speak with me. I pray that God will continue to bless you on your journey and that your testimony continues to touch the lives of all who hear it.

#WednesdayWisdom True Colors

My Grandfather used to always say, “money makes the blind man see.” If you want to see someone’s true colors? Involve money. Sometimes it doesn’t even have to be actual money in hand, lots of folks will expose their greedy self just with the potential thought that money could be on the table. Be careful folks, there’s an alarming number of people that fall under the category of “opportunist” and all they care about is pockets they can get their hands in.

When the kids are home all Summer…..

During the Summer, I have a few close friends (more like family) that entrust me with the responsibility of watching their kids. My oldest is 12, so she’s basically staff at this point and the others range from 2-10. On a full day (with at least 3 adults present), I’ve had 8 smalls. I’ve gotta tell you, having a classroom of 20 for a few hours in Sunday School is a whole lot different then having that many kids for two meals, two snacks and an entire day.

For anyone who has multiple children during the Summer months, I have found that creating a daily schedule and weekly menu helps tremendously in organizing what could potentially be chaos. All school age children have some sort of Summer Reading or Summer Homework that needs to be done so that should have a designated time. I have also found that listing “snack time” in-between meals prevents you being asked for a snack fifty thousand times. Recess, free time, arts & crafts also help take up some time slots. For my smalls, I’ve had all of them in Sunday School previously, so in my schedule we have a bible lesson also worked in.

For the little ones who can’t read yet or don’t have Summer Homework, I found a bunch of free learning apps on the for my I-Pad which I use with the little ones during this time and I also give the bigger kids reading credit if they choose to read a book to a smaller child. This helps the little ones learn to sit still which may not seem that important but it will be important when they start pre-school. Kids also learn from each other so don’t underestimate the impact of a bigger kid reading to a little one, most of them love it. In the back firing sense, I now have a two-year old goddaughter who tells me “sit” so she can read to me, which is mainly her flipping through the pages at top speed and going to get another book. Could be worse.

I know a lot of people don’t like to allow children to help clean up because they have to re-clean what the kids have cleaned. Honestly, that’s how I felt until I realized how much the kids actually enjoy helping so I try to give them tasks at the end of the day so everyone’s helping. For bigger kids? Give them the steam mop, it’s hard to mess up steam mopping unless of course it’s an 8 year old who decides it’s a weapon, then of course you’ll have to ban them from future steam mopping. It happens.  I have also learned Lysol Wipes can be used on electronics and Clorox Wipes can not. So if you’re giving a kid a wipe (make sure it’s a child old enough not to eat the wipe), make sure it’s Lysol if they’re cleaning in a room that contains electronic devices. Also as a side note, don’t let them plug in the vacuum in the same room that an Air Conditioner is on or you’ll be taking a trip to the fuse box.

Rewards are also helpful. Kids love having something to earn or look forward to. I build in recess time because they have it at school and I have found it helpful to follow their regular pattern. I do Popsicle at the end of the day after clean up and I try to do a fun lunch on Friday (i.e. Pizza) if we have good behavior all week. Pizza can be expensive so things I’ve found helpful in that department is the party size pizza which is normally $20 and feeds at least ten people, Little Caesar’s has a $5 large pizza special (I have two kids with a milk allergy, but Little Caesar’s will make a sauce only and you can pay the extra dollar for meat), or you can do pizza bagels yourself.

I certainly don’t have all the answers folks, but the little I’ve included above has really helped me manage a lot of kids at once without loosing my mind. Hope it helps, feel free to comment below!

Dear Readers: Updates Coming Soon

coming-soon

Dear Readers:

Thank you all so much for your continued support over the years. I appreciate everyone who has taken time out of their busy day in order to read an article posted here.

After much thought, I decided that I am going to start updating the categories and content featured here. I don’t really follow the social norm as far as blogging is concerned. I know a lot of folks pick what kind of blog they want and dedicate their posting around a certain topic. That never really worked for me because I like to represent on my blog what and who I really am.

I am a person who has worked (and still does) for over 17 years in the field of Human/Social Services working with families, children, and individuals with disabilities. I am a person who has worked and still works in the music/ entertainment industry not only as an artist, but in many different administrative functions. I am a person who has been an entrepreneur for over a decade and I am a person who not only talks about God, but someone who tries their best to walk that belief out in my everyday life.

I’ve done a lot of growing and maturing since I started this blog and someone very dear to my heart always has told me that everything God allows you to go through is to help someone else. So I feel inclined to give away everything that I’ve learned so that hopefully it will help someone else. With that being said, currently my life is so hectic I don’t fall asleep, I pretty much collapse at the end of the day. I am a full-time caregiver, I manage a full-time health staff and do 170 hours of payroll bi-weekly. I am a full-time care manager (which is someone who coordinates all health and community programs for an individual with a disability), I care for several children full-time Monday-Friday, I am the First Lady to Hell Razah’s (Wu-Tang Clan/Sunz of Man risendocumentary.com) Ghetto Govt Global Movement, I oversee the development and Management of two independent record labels, as well as work in my church administrative office while managing to make time for family and friends, and at some point attempt to work on my own music and book. Yes. I do all of this 7 days a week, I rarely get a break and if you ask me how, I can only spell out J-E-S-U-S, that’s how LOL.

So in my re-design, I’m going to keep a lot of things like music I’m involved with, interviews, Encouragement articles, Hip-Hop 101 for Independent Artists, and #TeamQueen but I really want to add a lot of stuff I’ve learned over the last few years like how to feed 8 kids on a budget, parenting techniques, time management, budgeting, and personal organization. I also want to address things that are important to me because after all it is my blog. I hope that you all will enjoy the updates, thank you all for your continued support!
