#New #Music @methodman #WuTangClan drops “The Meth Lab”

1035x905-MI0003900902

The anticipated album from Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man was released today and is his first solo record in approximately nine years. This project features 36 tracks and some of the features you’ll hear are from Redman, Handz On, Raekwon, and Inspectah Deck.

I sat here for a few thinking what else could I possibly write to make this article more interesting, then I realized I don’t have to say anything else really. This man is in a class all by himself and needs no introduction or clever word play as an attempt to lore you in and get you to go support his project… he’s Method Man, nuff said.

#HipHop Living #Legend Spotlight @KurtisBlow1

kurtis

The Kurtis Blow is one of those names in hip-hop that when it’s mentioned, everyone just sort of pauses in homage. Even the 80’s babies know the name even if they can’t pin point exactly why they know it. So for those who are unfamiliar (especially new comers in hip-hop), class is in session.

Kurtis_Blow_-_The_Breaks

“In 1979, Kurtis Blow signed a deal with Mercury Records, making him the first rapper signed by a major label. His album Christmas Rappin’ sold more than 400,000 copies. His follow-up album, The Breaks, went gold. He went on to release 10 albums over the next 11 years and also produced albums. Blow became an ordained minister in 2009 and founded Hip Hop Ministry.” (http://www.biography.com/people/kurtis-blow-5444) How many times have you said or heard someone say,”these are the breaks” or “those are the breaks” and they almost always do it with a shoulder shimmy and a tune? How many of you instantly think of Nas when someone mentions the song title “If I ruled the world”? Now you’ll know exactly where they came from if you didn’t before.

Rapper and producer Kurtis Walker on August 9, 1959, in Harlem, New York. Blow got his first practice as a DJ in grade school, mingling with guests at his mother’s parties to take their music requests. By the time he was 13, he had a fake ID and was sneaking into New York City clubs to hear DJs spin their tracks.

In 1975, Kurtis Blow enrolled in Harlem’s High School of Music and Art, but was kicked out for selling marijuana. He transferred to another high school, where he was soon caught selling the psychedelic drug PCP. Recognizing Blow’s intelligence, the dean gave Blow the chance to test for his General Equivalency Degree as an alternative to expulsion. Blow passed, and went on to study at New York’s City College.

While still a high school student, Blow had begun spinning his own tracks under the name Kool DJ Kurt. By the end of the 1970s, like many other New York DJs, he had become disenchanted with the boring sameness of the music coming out of the clubs. “Everything merged into one colorless sea of sound,” he recalled. “We, the deejays, had to do something to make our shows a little bit different … a little unique.” That unique new thing was rap. Blow started mixing his own rhymes with the beats on his turntable. “Pretty soon rap became an accepted thing, almost expected in fact,” Blow said, “and those clubs who had rappin’ deejays started to pick up.”

In 1979, Blow signed a deal with Mercury Records, making him the first rapper signed by a major label. His album Christmas Rappin’ sold more than 400,000 copies. His follow-up album, The Breaks, went gold, led by its iconic title track: “Brakes on a bus, brakes on a car, breaks to make you a superstar.”

Blow was soon officially a superstar as well. He went on to release 10 albums over the next 11 years. This included 1985’s America, featuring the song “If I Ruled the World.” The song cracked the Top 5 on the Billboard charts on first release, and returned (in sample form) a decade later when Nas’s version debuted at No. 1. Blow also produced albums for artists like The Fat Boys, Run-D.M.C., Russell Simmons and Wyclef Jean. His influence on hip-hop was so profound that rapper Run of the seminal trio Run-D.M.C. initially called himself the “Son of Kurtis Blow” when just starting his career.

kbbbbb

As his rap career progressed, Blow—a devout Christian—made a commitment to himself to keep his lyrics family-friendly. “I’ve recorded over two hundred songs and I have never used a profanity and I always thought that was just me trying to have some dignity, some integrity,” Blow said. “I knew that in order for this thing [hip-hop] to last and spread all around the world, it had to be wholesome, it had to be something that families could listen to, something people could play for their kid, something you could sing in church and I can sing all my songs in church.” Blow’s songs include “Magic Words,” a track recorded with a children’s rap group about the importance of saying “please” and “thank you.”

Kurtis Blow’s faith eventually led him to a new career, when he found himself reading the Bible and unable to put the book away. “I got to the last book in the Bible, Revelations, and it’s sort of like a prophecy. And I said I’d better get my act together before all this stuff starts to happen.” Blow became an ordained minister in 2009 and founded Hip Hop Ministry, a movement that incorporates rap into worship.

Besides recording, producing and hosting radio shows, Blow speaks out on behalf of a variety of causes. He coordinated the recording of the song “King Holiday” in tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. He also campaigns against racism and drug use. He will always be credited as one of the biggest influences on rap music. “Rappin’ is totally ours—nothing can take it away,” Blow said in 1980, when rap was still in its infancy. “It’s kinda what we are giving to ourselves.” Kurtis Blow. 7th Trumpet 26 Project Creation FULL STORY:

On December 14, 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut became a household name after one of the most disgusting violent acts ever heard of took place. 20 children and 6 adults lost their lives.

http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2012/12/us/sandy-hook-timeline/index.html

The beat for the 7th Trumpet (Arabic Money, Brandon Heat) was originally intended to be part of a beat package submitted to Redman while he was shopping around for producers via Twitter… the email kept bouncing back.

The 7th Trumpet was then scheduled to be recorded at 9:30 p.m. 12/14/12, 3 days prior. The song was originally intended to be released as part of Battlegrownd Entertainment #OPERATIONREVOULTION “Hip-Hop Apocalypse” 2013 theme. Battlegrownd Entertainment Founder/CEO Queentheprophet said “I almost chickened out of recording until I heard about the shooting. We went to the studio that night with heavy hearts but we knew that the message in the music we were making needed to be heard. The “7th Trumpet 26 Project” was born.”

The original version of the track (CT blows the trumpet 1/14/13) features Battlegrownd Entertainment recording artist Grand Giovanni (@_grandgiovanni) who released his solo début mix tape “Life On Mars” 10/31/12. http://www.datpiff.com/Grand-Giovanni-Life-On-Mars-mixtape.411509.html and the first appearance of Battegrownd Entertainment Founder/CEO Queen the Prophet (@queentheprophet queentheprophet.com). This track was produced by Brandon Heat (@iambrandonheat) https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/alienation/ who is currently  working on his sophmore album.

NEW MUSIC! by PHYSCOROCK @fuimstoned CRUNK IT OR JUNK IT!

Physcorock (Huston, TX) is a 12-year veteran emcee that has not yet been heard outside of Huston. Battlegrownd Entertainment CEO @Queentheprophet added Physcorock (aka 211 My N*gga no gang relation) to the #OPERATIONREVOLUTION Roster in October, 2012. The 211 reference is NO GANG affiliation. Physcorock says “The term 211 means armed robbery. I use that because the industry is full of commercial rappers who make a mockery of life and a lifestyle of people who actually lived it trying to make it. I know that I’m very graphic & detailed in my music, but I’m willing to go there by force because it’s real. I’ll never go commercial. I have so much respect for artists like Bone Thugs, 2Pac, Biggie, & Tech-9 because they weren’t afraid to spit real s***. I’ve only come to make music. I’ve been making music since the 8th grade and with or without a label, I’d still make it.” Physcorock debut world-wide release project “ANIMAL” is part of the Battlegrownd Entertainment #HipHopApocalypse 2013.

NEW MUSIC from @toughjunkie

INBOX 004

Tough Junkie – Missing
Artist: Tough Junkie
Title: Missing
Label: Pool Of Genius Records

The circumstances which preceded Tough Junkie’s manifestation remain unclear. From the information that is available it has been determined that a culmination of frustrated mental energies and unrecognized talent created the perfect storm for his emergence. So it is said that his birth occurred in a high school cafeteria, but there is much more to the story that only a few notable scholars have been able to decipher from his lyrics, unfortunately they soon perished leaving the world still unsure of how this juggernaut’s origin came about.

Throughout Junkie’s life, music has been his outlet, lifeblood, inspiration and focus. In the late 90’s he became fascinated with beat production, initiating him well beyond music appreciation and fascination and redirecting him towards creation and experimentation. Without access to a computer, Junkie filled in the missing pieces by incorporating two dual cassette players and a Sony Walkman in what he later found out was a technique referred to as “Pause Breaking”. Continually stumbling upon commonly used and sophisticated production techniques, his infatuation with creating music grew exponentially. Realizing the importance of music in his life, he continued to educate himself and became familiar with the technological and structural aspects of production. Although his love of music has no ideology and takes no residence in a single genre, his own talent and creativity expresses itself through Hip Hop. From the very basics to the sophisticated specifics, every detail oriented to music that he has studied encompasses the styles he learns, the technology he incorporates, and the music he absorbs continually throughout his life.

INBOX 006

Spanning over a decade from the beginning of his journey until now, with 48 albums in his past, this release has a home at Pool Of Genius Records. With international exposure, there is hope for a struggling scene that has endured some of the most detrimental setbacks and obstacles that a collective, in its infancy, can be presented with.

We are proud to present to you his EP, “Missing.” Junkie gladly takes the role of humble ambassador eagerly carrying the duty to bring the credit that is due to his birthplace and to the Hip Hop genre as a whole.

Tough Junkie would like to apologize in advance for the mental reprogramming that entails the continued replaying of his oscillating styles, philosophical story telling and unconventional production you won’t find on TV or the radio.
